Parachute

One pull of the cord, and the heist keeps its momentum.

Parachute

The Parachute is a standard traversal tool in the Sly Cooper franchise, allowing the thieving team to deploy a canopy and glide safely down from high ledges, rooftops, and cliff faces. It is not a rare find or a late-game unlock; rather, it is a staple of the team's kit, available to Sly, Bentley, and Murray as a basic means of vertical descent.

Across the series, the Parachute reinforces the games' emphasis on fluid, acrobatic parkour. Rather than forcing players to backtrack down stairs or use a single rope, the Parachute gives the team a graceful, cinematic way to drop from great heights, keeping the momentum of a heist intact.

Lore & Background

In the world of Sly Cooper, the Parachute is as unglamorous and essential as a crowbar. The Thieves' Guild operates in cities and landscapes where verticality is constant—rooftop chases, canyon drops, the upper floors of museums and banks. The Parachute turns a potentially fatal fall into a controlled glide, letting the team reposition mid-air and land on a target platform with a soft thud rather than a crunch.

It fits the franchise's tone perfectly: the team is clever, acrobatic, and a little bit reckless. The Parachute is the safety net that justifies the stunts. Bentley, the engineer, would be the one to tinker with the canopy's stitching; Murray, the brawler, would treat it as a way to get back up to the action after a rooftop brawl; Sly would simply yank the cord, grin, and be gone.

Because the Parachute is a given rather than a reward, it never draws narrative attention. It is simply part of being a Cooper: you jump, you pull, you land, and you're already planning the next vault.

In Their Own Story

The vault door sealed with a hydraulic hiss. Three floors above, a security drone swept its red eye across the corridor. Sly crouched on the edge of the loading dock, the city lights a smear of amber below. Murray hung a paw over the lip, ears flat. 'So… we just… jump?' Sly gave a single nod. Murray leapt. For two heartbeats he was a brown blur against the skyline. Then the canopy bloomed behind him with a soft crack, and he drifted down in a lazy spiral, grinning. Bentley was already mid-dive, goggles catching the wind. Sly pulled last, the canopy snapping taut, and the three of them hung in the night air for a moment—three small silhouettes against a million windows—before Sly kicked off the canopy and they were gone, already three blocks ahead.

Reader's Guide

The Parachute is available from the very first level of every mainline Sly Cooper title. No purchase, no unlock, no upgrade tree. It is simply part of the team's loadout.

In-game function: When the active character is at the edge of a high platform or in free-fall, pressing the designated action button (the same button used for context-sensitive interactions) deploys the canopy. The character then glides at a slow, controlled rate until they touch ground or a surface, at which point the canopy retracts automatically.

Which character wields it: All three active members—Sly, Bentley, and Murray—can deploy the Parachute. Switching characters mid-glide is not possible; you commit to the descent with whoever is active.

Upgrades or variants: None. The Parachute does not change, improve, or appear in a different form across Sly 2, Sly 3, Thieves in Time, or Lad Thieves. It is always the same simple canopy. There is no 'Super Parachute' or 'Glider' variant in the mainline titles.

Practical tip: Because the glide is slow, plan your drop point. A long fall over open water or a spike pit can be risky if the canopy is deployed too early and you drift off course. Wait until you are roughly above your target before pulling.
