Murray's Club

One walrus, one club, zero mercy for the bad guys.

Murray's Club

Murray's Club is the signature melee weapon of Murray, the walrus brawler in the Sly Cooper video game franchise. A large, heavy wooden or metal-tipped club, it serves as Murray's primary tool for close-quarters combat, allowing him to smash through enemies, break obstacles, and deliver powerful ground-shaking attacks that the smaller gang members simply cannot match.

As the designated brawler of Sly's gang, Murray relies almost exclusively on this single weapon across the series. The club is not a collectible or upgradeable item in the traditional sense; it is his innate, always-available weapon, reflecting his role as the team's muscle and frontline brawler in every heist and fight sequence.

Lore & Background

Murray is the largest and most physically imposing member of Sly's gang, a walrus whose sheer size and strength make him the natural choice for the brawler role. Where Sly picks locks and Bentley hacks terminals, Murray simply walks up to a problem and hits it. His club is an extension of that philosophy: a single, blunt instrument that needs no finesse, no gadgetry, no setup. It is the most honest weapon in the franchise.

Across the series, Murray's personality is defined by his loyalty, his appetite, and a certain endearing simplicity. He is not the sharpest raccoon in the room, but he is the one who will stand between his friends and a hundred armed guards without hesitation. The club is a symbol of that devotion—unfussy, dependable, always in hand. Whether he is cracking a row of robots in a factory or clearing a courtyard of thugs, the sound of that club connecting is as recognizable as Sly's whoosh or Bentley's zap.

In later entries in the series, Murray's role and the club remain consistent. He does not swap weapons or gain elaborate tech upgrades the way the other characters do. His identity is the brawler, and the brawler's tool is the club. This consistency makes him one of the most instantly readable characters in the franchise: see the big walrus with the big club, and you know exactly what is about to happen.

In Their Own Story

The warehouse was quiet except for the hum of a dozen security drones circling the loading dock. Sly crouched on a pipe, counting them. Bentley muttered over the comms, fingers flying over a tablet. Then a shadow fell over both of them.

Murray stood at the far end of the dock, club resting on his shoulder, tusks catching the amber light of a single overhead lamp. He did not say anything. He did not need to. He took one step forward, the sole of his boot cracking the concrete, and the drones turned in unison, sensors locking on.

He swung.

The first three went down in a shower of sparks. The second swing cleared the rest. By the time Bentley finished typing the override code, Murray was already walking back, club trailing behind him, a small piece of drone casing still stuck to the tip. He licked it off, chewed, and shrugged.

Sly just nodded. They moved on.

Reader's Guide

Murray's Club is Murray's default and only weapon. It is always equipped and cannot be lost, swapped, or upgraded in the traditional sense. You access it simply by switching to Murray as your active character during a level.

In combat, the club functions as a short-range melee strike. Murray can swing it to hit multiple enemies in a small arc, knock enemies off ledges, and break through destructible objects like crates, barriers, or weak walls that Sly or Bentley cannot remove. His ground-pound / stomp attack also benefits from his size, creating a shockwave that staggers nearby foes.

Because Murray is a brawler rather than a thief or tech specialist, his club does not interact with lockpicks, hacking minigames, or gadget-based puzzles. His role in a level is to clear enemy groups, create openings, and physically alter the environment so Sly and Bentley can proceed.

Across the franchise, the club's visual design may shift slightly between titles, but its function remains the same: one-hit melee damage in a wide arc, obstacle destruction, and area denial. There are no alternate club variants, no attachment system, and no rarity tiers. It is one weapon, one walrus, one job.

Tip: Murray's club is most effective in open areas with clustered enemies. In tight corridors, his size and swing arc can make him harder to control than Sly's quick strikes, so save him for the big fights.
