Kaine Island is the culmination of Dr. M's decades-long obsession with the Cooper Clan's legacy. Once a trusted friend of Sly's father, Dr. M felt betrayed when he was denied access to the Cooper vault, leading him to steal the Cooper family's most prized possessions and retreat to this remote island. He transformed the island into a mechanical nightmare, filled with clockwork animals, laser grids, and a massive, armored fortress that houses his laboratory and the Cooper vault's key. The island itself is a character in the story, with its volcanic activity and treacherous terrain reflecting Dr. M's volatile personality. The gang must navigate its many dangers—including a giant crab, a shark-infested lagoon, and a mine cart chase—to reach the heart of Dr. M's operation.
